Obitichna Spit

Obithos Spit (in Ukrainian Obitichna Spit) is a sand spit on the northern shore of the Azov Sea. It goes into the sea for 30 km between the Bay of Bay and Berdyansk. It is composed of sands and shell rock. Formed by sediment of the Obitochnaya River. Borders Bay Obitochny from the east. This low spit is covered with grass. The west bank of the spit is indented, several bays jut into it. Opposite the middle part of the western coast of the spit lies a group of reedy islands. The bottom is mostly shells or sand with a shell.

The western coast of the spit is low, bordered by a sandbank with depths of less than 5 m and a width of 4 km, with the exception of the southern part of the spit, where the shoals are about 500 m wide.

There are settlements in the northern and southern parts of the spit, and there is a fish receiving station, 3 km north-east of its southwestern tip, opposite the pier.

In 1995, the Spit and Gulf were included in the list of wetlands of international importance falling under the Ramsar Convention [2].

On September 15, 1920, a naval battle between the red and white flotilla took place near the Shining Spit.
